Edtech startup Masai School acquires Data Analytics firm Prepleaf for $1M
A Bengaluru-based Masai school, an online coding school, has acquired data analysis company Prepleaf for $ 1 million to add business data and business statistics to its area. Following its acquisition, Prepleaf will continue to operate as a separate organization under the banner of “PrepLeaf by Masai School”, the statement said.
Prior to the current agreement, Masai School had acquired a Bengaluru-based Design Shift Academy to offer User Experience Design (UX) and User Interface Design (UI) courses, in addition to its Full Web Development course.
By March 2021, edtech startup raised $ 5 million as part of its Series A cycle from VC company Omidyar Network India and other investors. Prior to that round, it had raised $ 2.5 million in a seed sponsorship round in August 2020, led by Unitus Ventures, India Quotient, and AngelList India.
Founded in 2017 by IIT Kanpur alumni Ankit Agrawal, Amit Saharan, and Aman Singhal, Prepleaf offers 5-month data and business statistics courses. Initially, the Implementation started as a test preparation platform based on research conducted by IIT Kanpur students, which was immersed in the testing patterns of companies that visited the campus for inclusion.
Currently, Prepleaf has about 250 students enrolled in Data Analytics exam preparation courses. Like the Masai School, Prepleaf offers a scholarship through an income allocation agreement, where students study pre-paid and pay only if they earn more than Rs 5 lakh per year, after graduation. Prepleaf’s median deposit rate is 90% and a salary package of between Rs 7.5 lakh, say, developers.
Masai School, on the other hand, focuses on providing work-based software courses. It offers both temporary and full-time coding programs in full web development and android development. The launch follows an Income-Based Agreement (ISA), which allows students to pay tuition fees after getting a high-paying job.
Bengaluru-based ed-tech implementation is working with NBFCs to record student program enrollment fees.
The Masai school says it has about 65% full-time students from non-computer science backgrounds and at least 20% enroll after 12th grade without their degrees. More than 70% of these students come from level 2 and 3 cities. Engineer students often choose part-time courses, he said.
Masai School has more than 700 employment partners including Samsung, Sharechat, Urban Company, Instamojo, Airmeet, GlobalLogic, Lendingkart, Mobile Premier League (MPL), Nobroker , and Paytm.
